The Hound Says:On Fire! Short odds and civility with this Legend in the last - and only the great uncertainty of racing sees him defeated. Beat Grafton Top Graders last start.
The Hound Says:Sleeping Ruff! The other 5 combatants may indeed be doing that here - with this chaser looking a moral. Resumes since Jan: but will be prepped. Just too classy.
A tricky start for punters - not a great deal of confidence in trying to find the probable winner. SUPREME IDENTITY (2) was solid enough in debut 2nd here on Sun: but only recorded 23.13 in defeat. Early check didn't help and derives benefit now. ROCK THIS JOINT (1) is a Maitland newbie. In astute care. Grafton form fair. MY MATE PHIL (8) going OK.
Despite lacking local knowledge, happy to take a punt on STYLE SENSATION (3) here. Hails from a winning litter: and more than a hint of ability on display in her Grafton runs. Is in good care. SNAP SECOND (8) is a big watch on debut. Dam has been a potent producer of classy, multiple winners. SEKAKAMA (4) walked out on debut in a Gardens 272m dash.
Tipping a wide runner from an inside draw is fraught with danger - but doing that with PIXIE ZESTA (1). She is well placed here tonight: being a 7-time winner at this 400m. Latest form OK: won a Grade 4/5 (22.43) 4 back. SUPER EDITION (5) is clearly the quickest of these: he owns a 22.19 PB. But meek last run. RAUDONIKIS (7) has a crack. In Exotics
A competitive contest - with 3 runners certain to find good support. SUPER AUSSIE (6) returned to his brilliant best at Goulburn Friday in quick time. His Maitland form is A1: a win a 4 minors from 5. Just needs to back up? FRANK AND VIE (2) is a 2-time winner this 400m: both from this draw. ZIPPING PHOENIX (3) has raced very deep in 3 runs here.
You are copping the Ned Kelly treatment from Traders if they don't offer 4 bucks the field here: it's that sort of contest! Siding with TINKER TRAIN (7) despite the fact he is virtually just out of Maiden class. A win and 2nd here past 2. Wide draw suits. OCEANS OF CLASS (8) owns quickest PB. But 1 win from 29? POWER GRIP (3) easiest race for ages.
This is a top contest. The Field camp is represented by a trio of fabulous littermates; Jase Mackay is double handed with 2 dashing dogs - and 2 outsiders make up the numbers. Takes a good one to overturn CHEROKEE OUTLAW (7) at Maitland: form is imperious. IMPRESS SHADES (8) draws to follow over and be a real threat. ZIPPING EVE (3) loves it here.
It's a Pathways: so the obligatory fingers and toes crossed with the prognostications! The scratching of pre-post elect, FIRE ASH (3) opens it up. TORPEDO ROSE (7) is suited by a class drop - and has the pace to lead: a big advantage in these contests. JET BLACK ZESTA (6) blew apart a Pathways here, Jan. Could replicate? SKETCHY GEISHA (5) is next.
After a 22.93 Gardens win on Friday upon resumption, CONAIR (2) sneaks in under the guard of the Grader tonight. That success was her 3rd from 6 runs: and she finds a race restricted to 1 -2 winners. Shrewd placement and it should pay dividends. GEORGIA NISMO (3) is the main threat, especially if she begins well. CASHING CHEQUES (7) good 400m form.
Although 1st-up for 4 months, it will be a shock if RUFF SHOT (4) doesn't handle these. A member of the strong Mackay camp: he has the superior form: boasting 2 smart wins on his CV. His 25.23 PB here was via a 2nd to the classy, Clock Off. BOTTLER'S CHARM (5) goes good and will win another race soon. BIG COOL NEVADA (7) destroyed a 400m here, Sun.
The odds will be skinny, but this Masters looks a formality for FIRE LEGEND (7). A mercurial chaser: he has raced and beaten the best in a stellar career. Fresh off a smart 25.48 Grafton win in Open class, his Maitland form is fantastic. ROSE OF LACHLAN (1) is no slouch: but Maitland is not her preferred venue. Only real danger. ERSKIN BOY (5) next
