Drinks all round at Wenty on Wednesday

By Jeff Collerson

Punters retaining a thirst for winners towards the end of tonight's Wentworth Park card could do worse than pin their hopes on kennelmates Drink Moet and Drink Beer, who will contest races eight and nine.

Trained by Michelle Sultana for owner Peter Freney's First Past The Post Syndicate, Drink Moet and Drink Beer are a highly promising 25 month old litter sister and brother.

Drink Moet, who has box two in the 520m Ladbrokes Proud Supporters Stakes, led throughout at her Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday, clocking a slick 30.02 after posting sizzling initial sectional figures of 5.43 and 13.85.

On those times Drink Moet should only need to begin cleanly to lead all the way again.

Drink Beer, who is in the 2020 Golden Easter Egg 11 April Stakes, also has box two and was impressive when second at his first WP appearance last Saturday night.

Drink Beer recorded early splits of 5.54 and 14.01 and led to the home turn before being run down by noted strong finisher Incapacitated, who stopped the clock after 520m in a fast 29.99.

Tonight Drink Beer faces weaker opposition, with his logical danger Aston Zodiac awkwardly positioned in box four.

Sultana and Freney's syndicate are also represented in race 10, a 520m Masters Stakes, by Drink Schooners, who is chasing his 20th win in 72 starts.

Drink Schooners has a chance but faces stern opposition from Fast Car Driving and Benkennie Chic, who filled the quinella in a similar race at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night.

Litter sister and brother Trump Card and Due West could battle out tonight's opening event, the 280m GBOTA Welcome Stakes, for trainer Lesley Hannaford.

Trump Card began brilliantly and led throughout to win over 350m at Goulburn in a smart 19.97 on January 30, with Due West finishing fourth in the same race.

But Hannaford said: "In ability there is not much between Trump Card and Due West.

"Trump Card is a faster beginner but Due West has a little bit more early pace.''

Trainer Peter Mattress believes Screaming Moe's box manners rather than her wide draw hold the key to her chances in tonight's 280m It's Going To Be Glorious Stakes.

Screaming Moe, who has won over tonight's course in a blistering 15.97sec, is the fastest WP winner in the field but can be tardy at the start.

She has won four of five races from box one but Mattress said his greyhound can handle an outside box.

"In December Screaming Moe won from box seven at Richmond in the fastest 330m time of the day so the draw is not the problem,'' Mattress said.

"She will run in a straight line from the boxes but she begins more consistently from inside draws.

"At her last start, when she had box eight over 400m at Maitland last Thursday, she missed the start badly but came home like a train to finish third.''

Good value tonight is Bjorn Ironside, a wide runner who finished fast when second from box one at Wentworth Park last Wednesday and who looks suitably placed in box six in the 280m Good Luck Sydney Kings Stakes.
